Voicemail numbers for UK networks (and how to divert)

Each UK network uses its own voicemail number, and the one you dial from another phone or abroad is often different again. Here they are, checked against each network's help pages, plus how to change what callers hear.

Your voicemail number depends on your network: 901 on O2, 121 on Vodafone, 123 on Three, iD Mobile and SMARTY, 443 on giffgaff, 905 on Tesco Mobile and 759 on Sky Mobile, and on EE you press and hold 1. From another phone, EE uses 07953 222 222, iD Mobile and SMARTY use 07782 333 123, and on giffgaff, Tesco Mobile and Sky Mobile you ring your own number and press \*.

What is the voicemail number for each UK network?

We checked every number below on the network's own help pages on 3 November 2026. Networks rarely change them, but if a number doesn't connect, check your provider's page.

On most phones you can also press and hold 1 to reach voicemail, because that key is set to your network's voicemail number.

Three's own help page gives +44 7782 333 123 for checking voicemail abroad. Three's community team also gives 07782 333 123 for checking from another phone (Three Community). O2's and Vodafone's voicemail pages don't list a separate number for checking from someone else's phone, so we haven't given one.

How do you check voicemail from another phone?

You'll need a voicemail PIN first, and on most networks you can only set it from your own phone. That's the snag people hit: on the giffgaff community, one customer asked "how do I get the pin for voicemail when I ring of my other phone and hit \* it asks for a pin", and the answer was to create one from their own phone first (giffgaff community). So set a PIN today, before you need it. Then there are two methods:

  • Dial the network's access number (EE, iD Mobile, SMARTY, and Three when you're abroad), then follow the prompts and enter your PIN.
  • Ring your own mobile and press \* when the greeting starts (giffgaff, Tesco Mobile and Sky Mobile), then enter your PIN.

A few PIN rules from the networks' pages:

  • EE: 4 to 10 digits. Don't use 2580 or 1210, which have been used as default PINs.
  • Tesco Mobile: the default PIN is 8705. Change it the first time you dial 905.
  • Three: 4 to 8 digits. Fast Login lets you skip the PIN from your own phone, and it's on by default.
  • Forgotten it? O2 lets you text RESET to 802901, and giffgaff lets you text RESET to 802443. On Sky, dial 759 and enter the wrong PIN three times, and Sky texts you a temporary one.

Does it cost anything to call voicemail?

It depends on the network and your plan:

  • O2: calls to 901 come out of your call allowance.
  • Vodafone: calls to 121 use your minutes. Standard charges apply once they run out or if you're roaming outside your plan.
  • giffgaff: calls to 443 are included in plans, or 8p per call on credit.
  • Tesco Mobile: included in pay monthly allowances. Outside your allowance, and on pay as you go, it's 15p a minute.
  • iD Mobile: comes out of your minutes. After that, iD charges 40p a minute with a one-minute minimum.

Abroad, costs change. Check your network's roaming page before you rely on voicemail while you're away.

How do you change your greeting and switch voicemail on or off?

Most networks let you record a greeting from the voicemail menu. On EE it's option 2 from the main menu. On O2 you dial 901, press \* and choose option 3. A clear business greeting turns more callers into messages. See our voicemail greeting scripts for tradesmen.

To switch voicemail on or off:

  • EE: text VM ON or VM OFF to 150.
  • O2: dial 1750 to turn it on, 1760 to turn it off.
  • giffgaff: dial 1616 to turn it on, 1626 to turn it off.
  • Tesco Mobile: dial 2905 to turn it on, 2915 to turn it off.
  • Sky Mobile: voicemail can't be switched off completely, but you can turn message recording off. Dial 759, then press 3, 5 and 1.
  • iD Mobile: use the app or My Account.
  • SMARTY: ask its team on web chat to turn it off.

O2 notes that you can't use Voicemail 901 alongside O2 Call Alert.

How do you control how long the phone rings before voicemail?

Your network sends unanswered calls to voicemail using a no-reply divert. Some networks publish a code to change the ring time:

  • giffgaff: dial \\61\443\10\*seconds#. giffgaff says this works on iPhones running iOS 17.4 or later and some Motorola phones, but not on other Android phones.
  • Tesco Mobile: dial \\61\905\11\*10#, 20# or 30#. This is for pay as you go only. Pay monthly rings for 30 seconds.

On other networks, the general divert codes are in call divert codes for UK networks. Be careful with ##002#, which cancels all diverts. On some networks that turns voicemail off too.

If calls go to voicemail before your phone even rings, it's usually a setting, not the network. See why calls go straight to voicemail.

Is voicemail enough for a trades business?

Voicemail catches the callers who choose to leave a message. You can't tell how many hang up instead. As one plumber put it on UK Plumbers Forums, "if i cant get to the phone some wont leave a message and just move to the next plumber they can find" (UK Plumbers Forums). That's why many tradespeople pair voicemail with a quick text back. Our guide to missed calls on the tools covers a callback routine.

Key takeaways

  • O2 901, Vodafone 121, Three 123, giffgaff 443, Tesco Mobile 905, Sky Mobile 759, and on EE press and hold 1.
  • From another phone: EE 07953 222 222, and iD Mobile and SMARTY 07782 333 123. On giffgaff, Tesco Mobile and Sky Mobile, ring your own number and press \*.
  • Set a voicemail PIN now, from your own phone, before you need remote access.
  • Calls to voicemail usually come out of your allowance, and costs vary once you're outside it or abroad.
  • Record a business greeting, and think about what happens to callers who don't leave a message.
